55th Scout Group "Morvan Dias Figueiredo"
EDUCATE, HELP AND BE HAPPY!
70 YEARS OF HISTORY
Scout Group Morvan Dias Figueiredo was founded on 08/08/1950, on the initiative of Mr. Cristiano Solano. Cristiano Solano, an active man concerned with the formation of our youth, found in the Scout Movement the ideal partner to achieve his purposes, aiming at the formation of the child's character and, at the same time, honoring his great friend businessman and Minister of Labor, who died recently at that time. In 1950 it was called “Association of Scouts of the Air Morvan Dias Figueiredo”, and its first headquarters was at Escola Docas de Santos, at Rua Campos Mello, 130, as Mr. Cristiano Solano was Director of the Associação Docas de Santos. There, he met great moments, preparing young people to face life, forming good citizens, through the application of the Scout Law and Promise, community work, helping others and Scout techniques. Among the most varied activities, the work carried out on the occasion of the landslides in the hills of Santos and in the construction of the “Cidade da Criança” stood out, with Mr. Cristiano Solano being one of the creators of this magnificent assistance work.
Several campaigns were organized by the Scout Group in order to alleviate the suffering caused by the droughts in the northeast and, every year, winter and Christmas campaigns are organized in favor of the needy population of our city. In the floods in the south of the country, in the catastrophe in Cubatão, and in AIDS prevention campaigns, Grupo Morvan's performance was and still is remarkable. In this year, in which the group celebrates its 70th anniversary, young people and adults have been engaged since the beginning of the year in campaigns in favor of victims of landslides caused by the summer rains and soon afterwards engaged in campaigns in favor of health professionals who act on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus and in the collection of food and for the people most affected by the deep economic crisis. Returning to the Group's history, in 1967 it moved to the Santos Air Base, in Guarujá (Vicente de Carvalho) where, together with the “Ar Salgado Filho Scout Group”, they formed the “Ar Arary Scout Group”, ( current Air Scout Group Captain Capelão Vicente Aguiar), remaining at the Air Base, the most suitable place to practice Air Scouting. In 1977, on the initiative of Mr. Mário Brasil Espósito, former Head of the Group, Morvan was reactivated and reopened in Santos, with the current name: “55º SCOOTEIRO GROUP MORVAN DIAS FIGUEIREDO”.
For that, former Chiefs and Scouts who worked together at that time, took over the Group, having as its headquarters the Dona Leonor Mendes de Barros Children's Park, in the Gonzaga neighborhood, in Santos.
He stayed there for three years, having then, in 1980, accepted the invitation of the Sports Association of the Military Police to transfer himself to its sports headquarters, where he remained until 1994, at that time, with the support of the ADPM Board of Directors and the Military Police. . In that place the “Morvan Family” grew in such a way that it was forced to build and, later, expand the facilities of its headquarters. It was the tireless work of the members of the Group, organizing financial campaigns, fairs, donations from parents and friends. In l996, after 16 years, the Scout Group had to leave the site permanently, as the ADPM Board of Directors terminated the lease and the building facilities built by the Group were incorporated into the property, leaving the Group without its headquarters. In support of the Scouts, the Associação Atlética Portuguesa Santista came, recognizing the service provided by the Group to the community, and housed them in its premises. There, he actively participated in its activities, in a human and fraternal entanglement, taking the Scout Movement to the associative framework of Portuguesa. Through humanitarian campaigns carried out by the Scout Group in support of the Instituto de Estudos e Pesquisas em AIDS de Santos, which had Directors who belonged to Scouting, the Group met Dr. Rubens Mafhuz, philanthropist and President of the Ruth Alexandre Mãos Foundation, who became knowing the situation of the Group, freely ceding one of its properties for the installation of the Administrative Headquarters, as indeed, proceeded in the same way, with several other entities.
Seeking to bring the meeting place closer to the administrative headquarters, in August l997, the Group returned to its origins, transferring the place of scouting activities to the Escola Docas de Santos, at the time municipal. On February 18, 2003, a property was acquired at Rua Campos Mello, 112, in which its own Technical, Social and Administrative headquarters would be built, next to the activities headquarters. The acquisition of that property once again involved an enormous effort of savings, sacrifice and tireless work of leaders, scouts and young people, with the participation of parents and former scouts, in addition to legal negotiations with neighbors, who were in dispute with the former owner. , having been boldly led by the then Chief Executive Officer Flávio Gomes Coelho. At the end of 2006, for administrative reasons, the Escola Docas de Santos maintained by the City Hall was deactivated and the property was closed. The Group remained at the location, already in precarious conditions, until May 2007, when, then, it moved to Colégio Sedes Sapientae, at Rua Arabutan, 47 in the Aparecida district. Later it transferred its technical activities and Saturday meetings to FATEC located at Av. Bartolomeu de Gusmão, in front of the beach, a place with better conditions to practice Scouting. In 2013, Fatec underwent renovations and the Group was transferred again, provisionally until the completion of the renovations, to Colégio Barnabé, at Rua São Francisco, in the center of the city, with the help of its then Director and former Scout of Morvan, Professor Wallington Licario.
On this occasion, the Group had to vacate the property provided by Dr. Mafhuz, who had died and the heirs put the property up for sale. On this occasion, the Group was housed in a property belonging to Mensageiros da Luz on a temporary basis. Meanwhile, the property acquired by the Group from Colégio Docas received purchase proposals, as it increased in value with the construction of a Faculty across the street (Unifesp). Then, at the Group Meeting, the sale of the land and the acquisition of the property on which the Group is based, at Rua Silva Jardim, 35, was approved. In this way, the Group sold the land in cash and bought the townhouse also in cash and still kept a portion in cash, giving a positive balance. This process was successfully conducted by the then Presidents Chief Wagner Pimenta and Chief Paulo Sérgio Marques Júnior. After this long period of several changes and the complete renovation of the newly acquired townhouse, it was finally possible for the Group to establish itself with a headquarters called “administrative and social” where field and administrative materials of the Group are kept, and where some social activities are carried out. . Its own head office - named Elmer de Souza Pessoa in a just and deserved tribute for its relevant services rendered in favor of the Group - was inaugurated with great celebration on the 65th anniversary of the Scout Group in August 2015 On that occasion the Group returned to FATEC as a place and headquarters for activities and meetings, which had finished the works, receiving from the management, a room for storing game material and for immediate use, still leaving a space in which the parents were attended, in a small secretary. Unfortunately, the Group had to leave the place, with the change of the FATEC Board, which usually happens with many scout groups installed in schools, parks, clubs or similar when there is a change in direction, command or management of the place. Thus, during part of 2016 and 2017, the Group was provisionally hosted at the premises of Educandário Anália Franco, located at Av. Ana Costa, Gonzaga, counting on the sensitivity of its managers.
Also in 2017, with the collaboration of the Escoteiro Serra do Mar Group and the intercession of its leaders, the Group obtained authorization to use the facilities of the municipal school UME Porchat de Assis, located in the Ponta da Praia neighborhood, where the group housed from 2017 until mid-2018 to carry out its activities in a place with a green area and greater outdoor space. Also in 2017, aiming at better conditions of activity, the Scout Group approached the Captaincy of the Ports of São Paulo to request the use of a support facility that had been deactivated for a few years and found in a state of complete abandonment, even causing discomfort and inconvenience to the neighborhood, because the place housed piles and piles of rubble, nests of pigeons in the Porto area without proper population control, also serving as a suitable hiding place for rats and cockroaches and the worst, as a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes and other vector diseases; not to mention the agglomeration of drug users around the 9 thousand square meter property.
